If you want me to make a pedigree chart with your Idaho ancestors and put it on the web with the others all you need to do is send the information to me. A gedcom or an email message containing the information will be fine. Please see the rules first.
If you want to maintain the pedigree chart on your own web space there are a few rules in addition to those listed above.
|If you are using an html editor program:||If you are using a word processing or Windows Notepad program:|
|Save the template to your hard drive by choosing "save as" from the "file" menu of your browser. Remember to save the IDGenWeb logo and the background image to your hard drive as well by placing the cursor on the image and clicking the right button on your mouse.|
|Open the file with any html editor program. Caution: AOL's editor may eat the pedigree chart.||Open the file with any word processing program. Windows Notepad works great because it will automatically save the file in the correct format. If you have Windows Notepad I strongly suggest you use it instead of something more complicated like WordPerfect or MS Word.|
|Fill in your family names, dates, etc. If your editor shows you the codes as you work, you'll want to see the instructions in the blue column for more help.||Find the number one in the middle line of code and follow that same line of code to add the dates and places for that person. It will be easier to follow one line if you don't let the word processing program wrap the text to the next line. Notepad doesn't wrap.|
|The word NAME appears at the place each name belongs. Replace it with the correct name. The number one appears just before the name of the first person on the chart. Number two is number one's father, three his mother, etc.|
|Please limit the chart to your Idaho ancestors only. If you want to use a similar pedigree chart for other ancestors see http://www.ida.net/users/elaine/pedigre2.htm|
|Use your html editor to change the email link on the upper left hand side of the chart to your email address. Change the words "Your name" to your name.||Add your email address by replacing the
words "Your name" with your name and putting your email address
right after the mailto: and before the " quote sign.
|Save the file with the file name of your choice. Your editor will probably add the .htm extension automatically. If it doesn't, be sure you do.||If you are using a word processing program save it as an ASCII dos text file under the file name of your choice, "______.htm". If you are using Windows Notepad, all you have to do is choose the name of the file. Notepad will automatically save it as ASCII dos text.|
|Contact me and let me know the URL where your page will be and what surnames you need me to add to the index and to find out what URL to put in the link to the previous page. Send mail to Cindy Koegel|
|Open the file with your editor again. Change the link to the previous page to the one I sent you.||The code for the
link to the previous page looks like this:
<A HREF="http://put the url I send you here">Previous Page</A>
Upload it to your web space.
